This illustration was one of two color spreads (and a few black and white) by Sem included in a 1897 issue of Tourny-Printemps. This was a special issue of Tourny-Noel a literary and artistic review art-directed by Paul Berthelot and published by the printer Gustave Gounouilhou. This double-page, mid-match scene epitomizes the magazine's target audience - the privileged, leisure class of Bordeaux.
